What we offer
This Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) course is designed in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations 323.14 and is built for you. Whether you’re starting your career or continuing your education, this course will elevate your knowledge and skills.
This course includes 11 modules including:
- Firefighter safety
- Fire behaviour
- Extinguishing agents
- Personal protective equipment
- Communication
- Airport preplan
- Airport familiarization
- Aircraft familiarization
- Apparatus
- Rescue operations
- Strategic and tactical operations
These topics are completed online.
During the five days of practical training, students will be fit tested for a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) mask, complete SCBA confidence drills, operate hand lines, understand and use aircraft doors and drive and operate ARFF vehicles. Students will also extinguish a 37 m2 (400 ft2) flammable liquid fire with dry chemical, complete interior aircraft search, rescue and fire attack operations and operate portable fire extinguishers. Several scenarios have been crafted to combine and further develop these skills. Students will also extinguish a 456 m2 (5,000 ft2) fire utilizing ARFF vehicles.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a FESTI certificate.
Please note this program is currently not endorsed by the Institution of Fire Engineers – Canada Branch.
This course is available in a variety of formats including the delivery of theory at your location, complete course offered at FESTI and as individual chapters or skills.
